Gyeongseong Creature, Han So-hee’s latest Netflix K-drama, perfectly flips one of the actress’ most famous roles. The list of K-dramas starring Han So-hee includes a lot of great titles, from romantic dramas like Nevertheless and Soundtrack #1 to action-packed series like My Name. Gyeongseong Creature marks Han’s return to the screens in what is her second Netflix original web series, the first being My Name from 2021. While Gyeongseong Creature is not concluded yet, a lot has already been revealed about the lead characters, Jang Tae-sang (played by Park Seo-joon) and Yoon Chae-ok.

The first seven episodes of Gyeongseong Creature premiered on Netflix at the end of 2023, with the final three entries of the season releasing in January 2024. Fortunately, those who enjoyed the historical drama with elements of science fiction and horror will not have to wait too much for another season, as Gyeongseong Creature 2 is one of the Netflix K-dramas releasing in 2024. Interestingly, Gyeongseong Creature season 2 will take place in 2024 and not in 1945. Despite the 79-year time jump, Han So-hee is confirmed to be reprising her role as Chae-ok.

Han So-hee’s Gyeongseong Creature Role Flips Her My Name Character

Chae-ok has the opposite goal from Ji-woo

Gyeongseong Creature and My Name are very different shows, but some parallels can be drawn between Han So-hee’s respective characters, Chae-ok and Ji-woo. Both Gyeongseong Creature’s Chae-ok and My Name’s Ji-woo had to face the demons of their past while trying to bring justice upon those who did their family wrong, although with one major difference. Whereas Ji-woo wanted to avenge her father, Chae-ok wanted to find her missing mother. Both characters had very clear goals right from the start of their respective shows and would stop at nothing until they accomplished them.

The biggest difference between Chae-ok and Ji-woo, however, is that the former still believed her mother was alive and could be saved. Chae-ok was introduced as a more hopeful character compared to Ji-woo, who was consumed with revenge as early as in episode 1. Still, both Chae-ok and Ji-woo had to unveil a complex thread of lies and conspiracies to understand why their mom and dad, respectively, had been taken from them. Unfortunately, while Chae-ok’s mother was technically alive, she was turned into a creature as part of an experiment conducted by Gyeonseong Creature’s version of the 731 Unity.

How Gyeongseong Creature Compares To My Name

Han So-hee’s Netflix hits are both intense & action-packed

Both Gyeongseong Creature and My Name are Netflix original K-dramas starring Han So-hee, with the latter having concluded after one season. My Name was set in the present day and saw Han So-hee as Yoon Ji-woo, a young woman whose father was assassinated. Ji-woo would dedicate the next years of her life to finding and killing the ones responsible for her father’s death, a mission that proved to be way more complex than what se originally thought. My Name explores the war between the mafia and the police as Ji-woo becomes part of the former and infiltrates the latter.

What To Expect From Han So-hee’s Chae-ok In Gyeongseong Creature 2

Gyeongseong Creature season 2 will be a very different show

Han So-hee’s New Netflix K-Drama Perfectly Flips Her Most Famous Role (2)

Perhaps the most obvious difference between Gyeongseong Creature and My Name is that one is a historical drama while the other is set in the present. However, this will not apply to Gyeongseong Creature season 2, which will be set in modern-day Seoul as opposed to World War 2 Gyeongseong. The Netflix K-drama included a shocking twist at the end, with a post-credits scene featuring Park Seo-joon’s character in 2024 watching TV. It has since been confirmed that the second season will take place in the present and that Han So-hee will still be playing Chae-ok.

Several Gyeongseong Creature season 2 theories try to explain Park Seo-joon’s “new” character and Han So-hee’s return as Chae-ok, now in 2024.

During Gyeongseong Creature season 1’s finale, Chae-ok was about to die when her mother, the creature, infected her with the Najin organism so that Chae-ok could live. Therefore, it can be assumed that Chae-ok is now immortal, or at least that she ages very slowly. This would explain why Han So-hee’s character can be back in season 2 despite the 79-year time jump. It will be very interesting to see what a character born in the 1920s will be like in 2024, even more so because Park Seo-joon is also returning for season 2.
